Norwood Park Civic Association

The Civic Association is looking forward to springtime and setting a new meeting agenda. The school district has requested that we provide insurance which is costly, as a result, we are looking for a new meeting location. If you have any meeting suggestions, please let us know.

NYS has passed its first, on time budget that I am aware of. Included in the 2011-2012 NYS budget is a reduction in school aid. Valley Stream 13 state aid is reduced by $705,979.00. The Central HS District will loose $2,134,550.00.

The governor and our elected officials recognize that Nassau County taxes are far too expensive and have introduced bills to limit superintendent salaries and cap property tax increases at 2%. Our schools will be faced with hard choices, cuts to programs and services are inevitable. The civic association will continue to attend school board meetings and raise issues on your behalf, however we encourage your attendance at these meetings. Far too often there is little public participation at the school board meetings.

On May 17th, the community is encouraged to vote on the proposed school budgets. To learn more about the budgets attend the meetings posted in the "Save the Date" section of this email. If you are not yet registered to vote please call the VS13 district office at 516.568.6100 for instructions.
